Éric Ruelland
Éric Ruelland (born 1972) is a painter. His practice initially developed around painting, through a personal exploration of color, materiality, composition, and the emergence of forms. For him, illustrating a poem does not mean providing a literal translation, but rather resonating with a voice, a rhythm, or an emotion. Using a medium other than writing, he seeks to capture what the poet intended to convey—approaching their sensibility, tensions, and inner imagery—and to respond to them through visual art. This work based on Verlaine extends that approach: accompanying the poems with artworks that share in their atmosphere and emotion, without confining them to a single interpretation.
